SLAVE PLAY IS BACK! I am excited to return to understudy Tea and Kaneisha in SLAVE PLAY once again. It's a limited 8 week run thru Jan 23rd, so get your tickets neowww!
I am STOKED to report that SLAVE PLAY, the show I understudied in on Broadway last Fall,
earned 12 Tony nominations. And to top it off, this accomplishment makes SLAVE PLAY the most Tony nominated play in history. AMAZING. MINDBOGGLING. CRAZY. AWESOME.
Congratulations to the entire cast, company, and crew, and the whole team of supporters.
And a special shout-out to the QUEENS that I understudied- Joaquina Kalukango is nominated for Best Leading Actress, and
Chalia La Tour is nominated for Best Featured Actress! So deserved, they both worked their behinds off!
I recorded another audiobook with Blackstone Publishing! When you get some quarantine free-time, check me out in Queen Move, by Kennedy Ryan on Audible. I really enjoyed co-narrating this a beautiful story about the love of a lifetime.
I just spent a couple of days shooting a dope short film project in which I played the spirit of Margaret Garner (google her)- Auction Block Party is a narrative film collage of music, drama, hyper-reality and fantasy. It is the first installment for a series of unconventional freedom narratives by Ayanna Maia.
Isolated during the pandemic, an indebted poet lamenting Black life lost decides to take her own until Margaret Garner, a notorious spirit guide appears with a better idea.
I finished voicing and engineering my first audiobook in my home studio!
I'm using the time off to delve deeper into the world of audiobooks. I used my stimulus check to create a home recording studio. Now I gotta learn how to use it- eeek! Stay tuned and check out my audiobook page for updates!
As we know, the world is fighting a virus. As such, the Theater/TV/Film industry is...not happening. I'm taking the time to self-care, fix my life (without Iyanla), call my loved ones, and to just- do some things I haven't been able to do because of work. Sending love and healing vibes to all of the planet, and big thanks to all of the essential workers out there, including my sisters- a nurse and a firefighter/paramedic.
I'm participating in a reading of the amazing Nambi E. Kelley's BLOOD. It's going down on Tuesday, March 10th at 2pm at the Cherry Lane Theater, as part of the Miranda Theatre Company's Liz Smith Reading Series.
I'm so pleased to share that an audiobook I co-narrated tilted Mercy House by Alena Dillon was an Editor's Pick and won an Earphone Award!
Every month, AudioFile Magazine reviewers and editors give “Earphones Awards” to the best new audiobooks — the listens that combine blow-you-away narrations with standout writing.
"Alena Dillon’s debut novel reveals the inequities and injustices wrought by the misuse of power. Stellar performances by an amazing cast peel away layers of pain, abuse, rage, and distrust. Three Catholic nuns in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood run a shelter for women brutalized by the men in their lives, and each woman’s story is delivered with heartbreaking honesty. Absolutely riveting."
I was a part of a really important/cool experience: Claire Warden, the Intimacy Director for Slave Play, recently invited me to participate in the taping of a CBS television special! So check out "CBS News Sunday Morning" on Oscar Sunday (February 9, 2020) at 9am. I'll be performing a scene and being interviewed in a special segment that's centered on the field of Intimacy Coordination in light of the Oscars and change in Hollywood! Check out the segment here:
